KOHIMA: The Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) T.J. Longkumer has announced mandatory vaccination for all Nagaland police personnel.

The DGP Nagaland made the announcement in a notice issued on April 9, 2021.

On the samde day, the DGP and senior officers from PHQ received the second dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

“DGP Nagaland and Senior Officers of PHQ takes the 2nd Dose of Covid 19 Vaccine”, Nagaland Police tweeted.

The press release stated that the Covid-19 vaccine is not a preventive measure, so all Covid-19 SOPs, such as mask wearing, are still needed for all -- including those who have been vaccinated.

"The vaccine is provided to assist our immune system in producing antibodies against the disease. If the vaccinations are completed, the immune system will be prepared to fight the Covid-19 virus if you become infected.This is the most powerful method for fully eliminating the virus," he added in the communique.

He also said that the vaccinations are a tried-and-tested way of dealing with pandemics.

"Vaccination has historically been the means by which mankind has overcome many deadly diseases such as smallpox, measles, and polio. Vaccines for the most dangerous diseases are also given to newborn babies. As a result, it is a tried and true process," it was added,

The DGP instructed all Unit Commanders to ensure that all staff had received their vaccinations.
