Ex Dhubri ADC Saibar Rahman arrested for ‘out of sync’ assets

GUWAHATI: Former Additional Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Saibar Rahman was arrested today based on a complaint filed against him at the Chief Minister's Special Vigilance Cell accusing Rahman of acquiring huge properties by illegal and corrupt means which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Between 23-06-2002 and 30-4-2021, a total of 89 numbers of immovable properties registered in either Rahman's or one of his two wives' names of which market value would be more than 100 crores.

It was also found during the enquiry that Rahman is in possession of assets both moveable and immovable to the tune of Rs. 6,38,12,188/- which has been calculated up to 95 per cent disproportionate assets against his known source income.

Rahman was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

"He being a public servant is in possession of disproportionate assets which is a criminal misconduct for owing assets that are out of sync with his legal sources of income," read a part of the statement released by Superintendent of Police, CM's Vigilance Cell.

An investigation is still underway.
