Fake doctor, 10th fail, arrested for serving in Assam tea garden

CHABUA: In a bizarre turn of events, police personnel in Chabua have arrested a 'fake doctor' from Mokalbari tea estate in Dibrugarh district who hasn't even cleared his 10th boards!

The fake medical officer had assumed the name of Dr. Stephen Antony since 2018, police said.

Actually, the 37-year-old fraud’s original name is Simon Nag and the actual Stephen Anthony is a Karnataka-based doctor who is currently working in Singapore.

Police informed that the fraud has been serving as doctor for last 12 years in various tea gardens across Assam.

The officer in charge (OC) of Chabua police station Tulumoni Dowerah has filed a suo motto case against the fake doctor.

"During investigation, it was found that Anthony had flunked his class 10 exam in 2003 from Bindhakota High School, Dibrugarh securing only 137 marks overall. From 2009 he has been acting as a doctor and had served in several big tea estates before joining Mokalbari tea estate in 2018," he said.

According to police, the fake doctor used to attend medical seminars.

He has been sent to judicial custody by the police.
