Heavy rainfall expected in Assam, Meghalaya from today till Thursday

GUWAHATI: Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in isolated areas of Assam and Meghalaya, as well as several other states from today till Friday.

Besides Assam and Meghalaya,  Sikkim, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu are among the states where heavy rain is expected.

Barmer, Dholpur, Meerut, Bhilwara, Ambala, , Aligarh and Amritsar are among the places where the southwest monsoon reaches its northern limit.

The southwest monsoon is expected to move slowly through the remaining areas of Rajasthan, west Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh,  according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

A cyclonic circulation was also observed this morning over Bihar.

Humidity is predicted to be produced across East India, Northeast India, and neighboring areas due to northwesterly winds over the Bay of Bengal.

Therefore, rain and thunderstorms are anticipated to be widespread throughout East India, Northeast India, and neighboring areas during this time.

It's possible that heavy rainfall will occur in few isolated areas of:

  • Assam and Meghalaya (Tuesday -Thursday)
  • Sikkim (Tuesday -Friday)
  • Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Tripura (Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • North Andhra Pradesh (Wednesday)
  • Bihar (Tuesday)
  • Chhattisgarh  (Tuesday and Wednesday)
  • Odisha  (Tuesday -Thursday).

According to the IMD, isolated to scattered rainfall is probable across the Western Himalayan area during the next 24 hours due to the effect of a western disturbance as a trough.

Furthermore,  Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh may see heavy rain or snow, as well as thunderstorms, today and tomorrow, while Assam, Meghalaya, coastal Karnataka, and West Bengal may experience widespread rain and thunderstorms.
