Guwahati: Social media giant Facebook has flagged a social media post shared by Himanta Biswa Sarma wherein he had claimed that Badruddin Ajmal supporters were chanting "Pakistan Zindabad" while welcoming the AIUDF Chief at the Silchar airport. However, the controversial viral video is yet to be taken down. At the time of filing of this report, it has already garnered over 6,000 reactions and over 1,000 shares.

According to reports, Biswa Sarma has become the first politician from the Northeast Indian region whose post has been flagged by the social media giant. According to Facebook, "independent fact-checkers say that this information has no basis in fact."

Facebook has cited "false information" as the reason for flagging the video based on fact-checking by independent fact-checking agency Boom LIVE.

It is pertinent to mention here that Facebook works with independent fact-checkers who are certified through the non-partisan International Fact-Checking.

It needs mention here that Himanta Biswa Sarma stirred up a storm on Facebook yesterday after posted a video in which he claimed Ajmal's supporters were hailing enemy nation Pakistan. “Look at the brazenness of these fundamentalists anti-national people who are shouting PAKISTAN ZINDABAD while they welcome MP Ajmal,” adding, “This thoroughly exposes Indian National Congress which is encouraging such forces by forging an alliance. We shall fight them tooth & nail. Jai Hind," Sarma captioned the video.

Although Sarma also posted the video on Twitter, the microblogging platform has not flagged the video. The controversy over the alleged chants is continuing on social media and television shows with no end currently in sight.
