HM Amit Shah to visit Assam tomorrow to campaign for 2nd phase of polls

GUWAHATI: Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah will visit Assam tomorrow to woo voters ahead of the second phase of Assam Assembly election to be held on April 1.

During his one day visit, Shah will participate in four rallies at Kamalpur, Jagiroad, Patharkandi and Silchar. He will be campaigning for Diganta Kalita in Kamalpur, Pijush Hazarika in Jagiroad, Krishnendu Paul in Patharkandi and Dipayan Chakraborty in Silchar.

Shah will be accompanied by BJP national general secretary and Mangaldoi Member of Parliament (MP) Dilip Saikia at Kamalpur.

On the other hand, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will address election rallies for BJP’s Dharmapur candidate Chandramohan Patowary and Golakganj assembly constituency candidate Ashwini Roy. Gadkari will also address a press conference at Guwahati before flying back to Nagpur.

The assembly elections in Assam will be conducted in three phases on March 27, April 1, and April 6. 264 candidates are in the fray in 47 constituencies going to polls in the first phase. For 39 assembly seats in the second phase, 345 contestants will try their luck, while 337 candidates will contest in 40 constituencies during the third and final phase of polling. Counting of votes will take place on May 2.
