India sees massive single-day spike in COVID-19 cases, total reaches 4.73 lakh

India registered a massive single-day spike in COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. It recorded 16,922 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 418 fatalities.

During the last 24 hours, a total of 13,012 COVID-19 patients have been cured. A total of 2,71,696 patients have been cured so far while there are 1,86,514 active cases in the country.

With these, the total number of coronavirus cases in India climbed to 4,73,105 and the death toll rose to 14,894 today, the Union Health Ministry stated.  The recovery rate stands at 57.42 percent.

According to ICMR, over 75 lakh samples have been tested for COVID-19 till June 24th, 2020. And on June 24th, 2020, 2.07 lakh samples were tested.

The apex health research body recently validated the 1,000th testing laboratory in the country, ramping up the capacity for detection of COVID-19 in the country. Of the 1,000 testing laboratories, 730 are in government setups while 270 are in the private sector.

Among the states, Maharashtra is the first state to cross 6 thousand deaths. It has recorded 142900 corona cases with 73792 cured, 6739 deaths, and 62369 active cases. The western state is followed by Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi has corona 70390 cases with 41437 cured, 2365 deaths, and 26588 active cases. Tamil Nadu has 67468 positive cases with 37763 cured, 866 deaths 28839 active cases. Gujarat with 28943 COVID-19 cases, so far, has 21088 have been cured, 1735 deaths, and 6120 active cases.
