KOHORA: Six tourists in Kaziranga National Park had a providential escape when their safari vehicle caught fire.

The incident happened when the tourists from Bengaluru were looking at a rhino that was crossing the road.

The tourists were so engrossed by the sight of the rhino that they did not notice smoke coming out of the vehicle.

They only jumped off the vehicle and ran for life after being alerted by tourists of another vehicle.

The abandoned vehicle soon went up in flames and fire tenders from nearby Bokakhat had to rush to douse the flame.

The incident happened at Mihimukh in Kohora range of the famed park.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a technical snag could have ignited the fire in the vehicle.

Local residents alleged that the safari vehicles used for ferrying tourists in the park are in a dilapidated condition.
