IMPHAL: Renowned climate activist Licypriya Kanjigam’s father has been arrested in New Delhi and will be produced before a court in the national capital today.
Kangujam Kanarjit alias Dr. KK Singh, who is no stranger to controversies, was arrested from Delhi after a joint operation carried out by Delhi Police Special Cell and Manipur Police. He will be produced before a court in Delhi today on May 31 with efforts to bring him back to Manipur.
Dr. KK Singh reportedly fled from Manipur as authorities were mulling legal action.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate of Imphal East declared Kanarjit as an absconder on April 25, 2016, on criminal case number 37 of 2015 under sections 406/417/420/427/120-B/120-A/107/34.
Kanarjit has been accused of forging documents, signatures and presented a larger-than-life image of himself.
Manipur Police had earlier announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for Singh.
According to reports, he had collected funds and fees from national and international students in the name of International Youth Committees (IYC), organizing youth meets and other seminars, relief for earthquake victims and later failing to carry out his commitments.
If reports are to be believed, Singh managed to collect crores of rupees through illegal means in the name of helping the families of those killed in the earthquake and subsequent rescue and relief work.
Licypriya Kangujam, the young Manipuri environmental activist who recently supplied 100 oxygen concentrators to the needy from her own money had earlier been in a controversy for ‘faking achievements.’
