MUMBAI: Amid massive COVID-19 surge in the state, Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray indicated the imposition of strict lockdown in the state for 15 days.

This was discussed in the Maharashtra cabinet meeting or an all-party meeting via video conference to review the current COVID-19 situation in the state yesterday.

CM Thackeray’s stand was supported by CP and Congress as well.

Despite the fact that the all-party meeting did not reach a formal decision on a lockdown, the chief minister seems to be in favour of a strict lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has asked that the CM first devise a detailed strategy for the lockdown. After that, inform the public and make a decision. Supports the decision of the government.

Following the meeting, Maharashtra Minister Aslam Shaikh said that the state government is attempting to avoid a lockdown and has imposed stricter COVID-19 curbs, such as a weekend lockdown, to prevent the virus from spreading.

Thackeray said that a decision on lockdown would be made after his meeting with the task force today.

Maharashtra had 58,993 new COVID-19 cases, 45,391 recoveries, and 301 deaths the day before. There were 9,200 cases registered in Mumbai alone, bringing the total to over 5 lakh.
