Meghalaya COVID Care Centres receive milk donations on 'world milk day'

GUWAHATI: Private dairy farms and organizations in Meghalaya have decided to celebrate World Milk Day with a twist -- by donating milk to COVID-19 Care Centres so that the patients can build more strength to fight the disease.

Earlier today, the state's chief minister Conrad Sangma posted some photos of the milk donation programmes in Tura in West Haro Hills district.

India reported the lowest daily new cases in 50 days with 1,52,734, taking India’s total tally to 2,80,47,534, while the active caseload further declined to 20,26,092. As many as 3,128 deaths were recorded till 8 am on Monday.

About World Milk Day: 

In 2001, World Milk Day was introduced by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector, every year on 1 June.
