SHILLONG: To avoid another state lockdown because of the increasing number of COVID -19 cases in the state, the Meghalaya government has taken several decisions today.

Holding a review meeting for the COVID-19 situation across the state Cornard Sangma-led government imposed a ban on entry of tourists from outside the state with effect from April 23.

It was decided that all schools to be closed from tomorrow for the next 14 days till 4th May 2021 in the Shillong area, while MBOSE examinations to continue unaffected.

Government and private sector offices will also operate with 50 % capacity.

There will also be closures in tourist areas with the high visitor traffic.

The validity period for RT-PCR tests will be reduced from 72 to 48 hours.

Hotels and restaurants will remain open at 50% capacity. Shops will remain open as long as protocols are followed.

Moreover, the state will launch an aggressive vaccination campaign. All citizens over the age of 45 are encouraged to get vaccinated.

All of these measures and restrictions are being put in place to avoid another state lockdown.

Chief minister Conrad K Sangma also urged all citizens to cooperate and work together to avoid another lockdown.
