It eventually caught the attention of the state’s Sports Minister Robert Romawia Royte who commended the young girl for her dexterity with the ball.

“A talented young female football enthusiast Cindy Remruatpuii from my constituency #AizawlEastII playing ball with pencil heel and showing ‘How its done’. Football is not just for the boys, its for everyone!,” Royte tweeted.

Netizens, meanwhile, are awestruck by the immense skill shown by the budding talent.

“Just one thing: there’s danger in playing football on cement floor and with heels. Please let’s see that the budding talent blooms without any hiccups.”

Mizoram has produced a number of talented footballers over the years. The likes of Jeje Lalpekhlua, Lallianzuala Chhangte and Jerry Lalrinzuala amongst others have all made it to several top Indian Super League (ISL) clubs while some of them have also gone on to play in the national side.

While the footballing potential of the state was never in doubt, what has accelerated the development of youngsters is the four-tier league system that the Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has introduced in the last decade, complemented by a greater focus on school-level football.
