AIZAWL: Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga today tweeted and requested everyone to "calm and promote peace" amid the turbulence over the border row with Assam.

"I sincerely request all to stay calm and promote peace in this time of great difficulty. Mizoram hopes for an amicable solution with the help of intervention from the Central Government," said Zoramthanga.

According to a statement from the chief minister's office, Zoramthanga is currently quarantined as per COVID-19 SOP after one of his PSOs tested COVID-19 positive.

Zoramthanga was expected to reach the border area yesterday to assess the situation at the border, but had to be quarantined after the COVID-19 scare.

This seems to have affected the normal working of his office to a certain extent. Meetings requiring the CM's presence or personal contact as well as interviews may be put on hold for the time being

Meanwhile, the Centre has called a meeting of the chief secretaries and DGPs of Assam and Mizoram on Wednesday after five Assam Police personnel were killed in a clash.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla will chair the meeting to discuss the sudden escalation of violence along the Assam-Mizoram border.

The meeting of the chief secretaries and Directors General of Police is expected to work on a peace formula so that there is no repeat of the violence along the shared border of the two states.
