Mizoram records lowest COVID death rate in country, 2 other Northeastern states in top five low death rates list

GUWAHATI: Northeastern state Mizoram has reported the lowest death rate in the country during its second wave of COVID-19 pandemic.

Two more northeastern states Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have also made their place in the top five Indian states with the lowest rate.

Mizoram has reported a death rate of 0.27 per cent and topped the list whereas Arunachal Pradesh with 0.36 per cent and Assam with 0.64 per cent of death rates figured at third and fifth positions respectively.

The other two states which have occupied second and fourth positions are Kerala and Bihar with 0.30 per cent and 0.58 per cent death rates respectively as of May 15.

Assam had been widely appreciated for its COVID management during its first wave and Mizoram was almost unbothered from it throughout. Last year, Arunachal's death rate was 0.32 per cent.

But the second wave of the pandemic had hit both the stated violently where Assam is the worst COVID affected northeastern state currently and Mizoram is at second position.

Although Mizoram has not received any COVID death report since May 12 until today, one succumbed to the virus from the state. Assam is registering 50-80 deaths on daily basis.

Currently, Mizoram has 2117 active cases and the death toll stands at 25.

Assam recently had 43,377 active cases with 3,650 new cases detected yesterday.

Arunachal registered 180 fresh cases in the last 24 hours and as many as 3 succumbed to the virus.

The national fatality rate on account of COVID stands at 1.09 per cent.
