Nagaland: 16 days of activism against gender-based violence underway in State

DIMAPUR: On the eve of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women which falls on November 25, a digital campaign to commemorate the day and raise awareness about gender-based violence was launched in Nagaland today.

The campaign marks the launch of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, which culminates on the Human Rights Day on December 10.

Commissioner and secretary, social welfare department, and administrator, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, Sarah R. Ritse virtually launched the digital campaign on the theme “We are in it together: Let’s End Gender-Based Violence”.

“It is our collective responsibility to ensure women’s safety,” Ritse stated in her message. She urged everyone to participate in the online digital campaign.

The digital activities are being jointly organised by the Nagaland social welfare department, Nagaland State Commission for Women, Nagaland State Social Welfare Board, State Resource Centre for Women Nagaland-Mahila Shakti Kendra, and 181-Women Helpline Nagaland. They include an online pledge campaign, poetry slam video competition, awareness video on pledge campaign, information education communication on legal entitlements to empower women and an awareness video on service providers 181-WHL (women helpline) and Sakhi-One Stop Centre (OSC).

The poetry slam video competition is open to those aged between 15 and 30 years, with cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 12,000 and Rs 8000 respectively for the winners.

At the district level, the district administration will also be organizing various activities under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao programme with the Mahila Shakti Kendra-District Level Centres for Women and Sakhi-OSCs to commemorate the occasion.
