Former Assam Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tarun Gogoi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to pay heed to Rahul Gandhi’s advice to revive the economy and restore Indian territory.

It may be mentioned, the Indian economy has collapsed after the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent prolonged lockdown in the country.

Saying that the Rahul's concern about China's expansionist policy, economic and foreign relations is genuine and timely, Gogoi said, “Modi should pay heed to his advice to pumping money into the hands of common people in order to revive economy and take steps to restore our territory.”

On July 17th, 2020, Rahul Gandhi, while launching a blistering attack at the Centre, said, “China has chosen to violate the Line of Actual Control and make incursions into the Indian territory now because the Indian economy and New Delhi’s foreign policy and its ties with its neighbours are troubled at this point of time.”

“Since 2014, the PM's constant blunders and indiscretions have fundamentally weakened India and left us vulnerable. Empty words don't suffice in the world of geopolitics,” Mr Gandhi tweeted, along with a video of him discussing the border tension between India and China.

In the video, Rahul further said, “Today you have a country which is economically in trouble; in trouble as far as foreign policy is concerned; in trouble with its neighbours and that’s why the Chinese have decided that this is possibly the best time to act and that is why they have acted.”

This has drawn a sharp counterattack from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. The minister claimed that India’s major partnerships are stronger and international standing is higher now.

It may be mentioned that the opposition has been targeting PM Narendra Modi over allegations that the country has not been told the truth about Chinese aggression in eastern Ladakh, when on June 15th, 2020 a violent face-off in Galwan valley led to 20 soldiers laying down their lives for India.
