GUWAHATI: "Bihu will be held this time. If not, the artistes will be severely impacted. Therefore, I have urged that Bihu should be held albeit with added precautions such as wearing of masks," Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma opined amid the resurgence of COVID-19 across India.

"The question of lockdown does not arise. In fact, it is not good to even think about such things" Sarma, hot on the campaign trail for the election, said.

The Health Minister also said that 2-3 artistes have called him asking whether Bihu will be permitted in spite of the second wave of the virus. "I assured them that the celebrations will be held as usual. There is nothing wrong with celebrating Bihu."

Bohag Bihu celebrations this year will begin on Wednesday (14 April) and end on Friday (16 April).
