SHILLONG: Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem had brought up a zero hour notice in the house in response to a media report about a recent meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and highlighted the importance of implementing the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State.

According to report, the central leader agreed to discuss only issues relating to the Meghalaya Residents’ Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) and avoided discussing the IPL.

“The matter of ILP has come up in every discussion, and it is a worrying sign to see report of the Centre is asking the state to choose between ILP and the 6th Schedule is concerning,” Syiem said.

He further pointed out that the demand for ILP and the Sixth Schedule should not be mixed or compromised.

The Congress legislator also said that the Sixth Schedule needs to be "sharpened" in order to see district councils to become an asset rather than a burden to the state.

Syiem also asked for clarity from the government on the status of the meeting with the Union Home Minister to determine if Meghalaya will be granted the ILP.

While replying to the zero hour notice, CM Sangma said the State Government had taken serious note on implementing the ILP in the State.

To discuss the matter, the state government has held a series of meetings with all stakeholders. “We have also submitted a memorandum during the meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah on February 21, the chief minister added.
