Arunachal: 6,000 poor residents of Itanagar to get ration for free

ITANAGAR: As many as 23 vehicles loaded with ration items for distribution to the needy have been flagged off as part of a novel initiative that is likely to make the lives of the poorer residents of Itanagar much easier.

Arunachal Home Minister Bamang Felix, Sports Minister Mama Natung, and Itanagar Mayor IMC Tame Phassang jointly flagged -off the vehicles loaded with ration items to be distributed in different Wards of the Capital region.

Felix, Natung, Mayor Phassang, and Education Minister Taba Tedir have joined hands to provide free ration items to at least stranded 6,000 daily wage earners of the capital region.

Mama Natung, making an address, said that the state government is "very much concerned" about the daily wage earners and people who have been stranded during this lockdown.

"No government or individual supports lockdown, but it is the only option left for us to control the virus from spreading further," Natung said.

He also appealed to the people to cooperate with the administration, health department, IMC, and state government to fight this pandemic.

Home Minister Bamang Felix said: "We are not only concerned about the people and families who are losing their loved ones to COVID -19 but also for those families who are totally dependent on daily wages. Besides existing government schemes like PMGKAY, AAY, BPL, this contribution is for those who are stranded and cannot avail of the government schemes.."

Mayor-IMC Tame Phassang informed that no government fund was being used for the purchase of the essential items.

‘Expressing concern over the lockdown in the state and capital since May 10 last, on May 27 last Chief Minister Pema Khandu has suggested contributing for the daily wage earners from own expenses.
