NPP appoints Jayantakumar Singh as working president of Manipur unit ahead of assembly polls

IMPHAL: The National People's Party (NPP), the ruling party of Meghalaya, seems to be buckling up for the upcoming state assembly polls in Manipur next year as it has appointed Langpoklakpam Jayantakumar Singh as Working President of NPP Manipur today.

Jayantakumar Singh is an MLA from the Keishamthong constituency of the Manipur assembly.

NPP president and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma took to his Twitter to announce the news and congratulate Singh.

"Sh. L Jayantakumar Singh, Hon'ble MLA of Keishamthong A/C has been appointed as Working President of NPP Manipur. My best wishes to him on his new responsibility" wrote CM Sangma in his tweet.

NPP currently holds 4 out of 60 seats in the Manipur Legislative Assembly.

The party has an aim to expand its base in tribal constituencies of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, North West Bengal, and Northeast India by contesting elections.

NPP holds one seat each in the Upper and Lower house.

NPP was founded in January 2013 by P.A. Sangma, father of Conrad Sangma, after splitting from Nationalist Congress Party.
