JORHAT: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has officially reached Assam today to take part in an election rally that will see him hand over land pattas to over 1 lakh indigenous families of the state. Moments earlier, the Prime Minister landed at the Rowriah airport at Jorhat, Assam. From Jorhat, the PM has reached the meeting site at Jerenga Pathar in Sivasagar by helicopter.

The choice of the historic Jerenga Pathar as the meeting venue is seen as interesting because Upper Assam is where the strongest opposition to the BJP-led government’s CAA came from.

PM Modi's convoy has already entered the venue and the PM will take centre stage very shortly.

The PM has been received by Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, who will also be present during the ceremony.

Earlier today, Sonowal took to Twitter to announce that the PM's visit "has become synonymous with unprecedented development and transformation."

"Every occasion of PM

">@narendramodi ji's visit to Assam has become synonymous with unprecedented development & transformation. Today, we once again mark the beginning of a new age of empowerment for the people of Assam," the CM wrote.

Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing for PM Modi’s land patta distribution event on Saturday, which is in line with the BJP’s 2016 poll plank to protect the Jaati, Maati and Bheti (community, land and hearth). Incidentally, the state's biggest land dole comes against the backdrop of fervid electioneering in the pol-bound state.
