GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metropolitan district administration on Saturday started conducting random Covid-19 tests at business establishments, offices, and places of worship in Guwahati city, to contain the spread of COVID-19.

As its action plan, the district administration divided Kamrup Metro into five parts East Zone, Sonapur BPHC, Capital Zone, West Zone, and Khanapara Zone.

As many as five teams were deployed in the East Zone, six in Sonapur BPHC, nine in Capital Zone, eight in West Zone, and five in Khanapara Zone.

The exercise is likely to continue till April 12.

Meanwhile, the state government has put hospital authorities on alert for the maximum segregation of Covid-19 positive cases around the time of Rongali Bihu.

To restrict the spread of coronavirus during the Rongali Bihu celebrations, the state health department on Friday issued a new set of Covid-19 protocol.

Assam on Saturday reported 405 new COVID-19 cases and with this, the caseload stood at 1587. Out of the new cases reported, Kamrup Metropo recorded the highest with 145 cases, followed by Kamrup Rural 28, Barpeta and Dibrugarh with 23 cases each. A total of 68,075 tests were conducted. The positivity rate is 0.59 per cent.

On the other hand, two deaths were reported during the period. The deaths were reported from Kamrup (M) and Baksa districts.

It needs mention here that the active cases of COVID-19 in the state post the recently concluded assembly elections have witnessed a massive surge since April 7.
