GANGTOK: Based on some serious allegations against Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, the Sikkim Nagrik Samaj (SNS) have submitted a complaint letter to the Sikkim Director General of Police S. D. Negi seeking updates on an first information report (FIR) filed more than a month ago and why no action has been taken.

An FIR was sent to SP East by Speed Post on 6 July which was received on 9 July by his office. This was after no FIR was registered against the accused by the local police.

SNS has named the accused to be Jacob Khaling, senior leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party and Political Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sikkim.

Jacob was accused of attempt to rape, molestation and other cognizable offenses.

"It is shocking that no action has been taken even after a month on allegations of such a heinous crime," said SNS spokesperson Passang Sherpa.

SNS have also accused the police of being more interested in protecting the powerful rather than serving justice to the victim.

"This incident has not only brought into disrepute the entire police department but has also weakened the faith of common citizens towards the law agencies," Sherpa added.

SNS has demanded arrest and immediate dismissal from his post and accused SKM party of turning Sikkim into a 'Jungle Raj'.
