Tripura: NUJ(I) demands immediate action after journalist gets attacked
In a shocking incident, more than 100 goons attacked the house of senior journalist Prasantha Charkavarti, also the General Secretary of Tripura Union of Working Journalists and destroyed the entire house. Prasantha Charkavarti was not present at the house; the culprits beat his brother and sister and left in a shaky condition. The General Secretary of Tripura Union of Working Journalists accused the BJP government of the state.
The National Union of Journalists (India) expresses serious concern over the attack on its national secretary’s house at Agartala, Tripura. NUJ President Ras Bihari and Vice President Bhupen Goswami (East Zone) condemned the attack saying that the attack shows that everything is not going well in Tripura and the state government wants to suppress the voice of the media and demands immediate high-level judicial inquiry and action.

The President said that the NUJ demands that high-level judicial inquiry must be set up to give justice to scribe and appropriate compensation from the state government. NUJ India will also complain about this whole episode to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Governor. They demanded from the Union Government and the State Government of Tripura to ensure the safety of scribes. North East Journalists Welfare Foundation, Journalists Association of Assam (JAA ) also demands immediate action and setup of high-level judicial inquiry.
