MUMBAI: Days after son Aaditya Thackeray tested COVID-19 positive, Rashmi Thackeray wife of Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray has too tested positive for COVID-19.

She had taken the first dose of the COVID vaccine on March 11 at the government-run J J Hospital.

Environment minister Aaditya Thackeray had disclosed two days ago that he had tested positive for the viral infection.

In the last 24 hours, the state tallied 28,699 new COVID-19 cases, 13,165 recoveries, and 132 deaths.

The total number of cases has risen to 25,33,026 cases, with 2,30,641 active cases and 22,47,495 recoveries, according to the State Health Department.

Meanwhile, lockdown has been imposed in the Parbhani district in Maharashtra's Marathwada region with effect from 7 pm today to March 31.

The action comes in view of a surge in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Since March 1, the district of Parbhani has added 1,132 new infections, bringing the total number of infections to 5,843 as of March 22.

According to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray believes that lockdown may be necessary in some cities if the number of new cases continues to rise.
