GUWAHATI: Sankar Chandra Das, the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Barpeta unit, tragically succumbed to COVID-19 related complications at a private hospital in the city earlier today. He was 74.
Das, who was suffering from post-COVID complications, was earlier admitted to the Health City hospital for his treatment. However, the doctors were unable to save him.
In 2021, he contested the polls from the Sorbhog Constituency in Barpeta, the former home constituency of Assam BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
However, Manoranjan Talukdar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was able to wrest the seat away from the saffron party in an upset victory.
