Assam woman gets bail after 2 years at detention camp, loses husband in between

BIJNI: One woman from Bijni in Chirang district has come back to home after spending two years at a detention camp for foreigners in Kokrajhar.

The woman named Amala Das was sent to detention camp by Foreigners' Tribunal two years back suspecting her Indian citizenship.

With combined initiative of Citizens for Justice and Peace, Bharatiya Nagarik Adhikar Suraksha Manch and Bengali Federation, Amala Das got bail and finally returned to home.

On the other hand, her husband Gopesh Das had died five months ago waiting for his wife to get released.

Amala now have to give her attendance on every week at her local police station and the above mentioned organisation have urged to extend her attendance timing from once in a week to once in a month.

The organisations have also plead to release all the falsly accused Indian detainees in view of COVID as well as to transform the Goalpara's Asia's biggest detention center, which is under construction, to either a COVID hospital or a permanent one.
