Lockdown in Arunachal's Capital Complex districts extended till May 31

ITANAGAR: In response to an increase in COVID-19 cases in the city, the Arunachal Pradesh government has extended the lockdown in the capital complex for another 14 days, until 5 am on May 31.

Since May 10, the capital complex district which includes Itanagar, Naharlagun, and Banderdewa, has been under a seven-day lockdown.

According to Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom, the lockdown will be extended starting at 5 am on May 17 and will last until 5 am on May 31.

“The restrictions are in place as a precautionary measure in the wake of a sudden increase of COVID-19 in the region,” Potom added.

"Except for those engaged in the distribution of essential services, movement of people will be limited," the DC said, adding that arrangements will be made for home delivery of LPG cylinders and other essential products.

Arunachal Pradesh recorded 249 new COVID positive cases and one person died due to COVID-19.

199 patients had recovered and were discharged on Saturday.

The capital complex had the highest number of new cases, with 85. With 545 active cases, the area has the largest number of active cases.

In the meantime, in light of the increase in COVID-19 incidents the government has agreed to enforce a lockdown in Tawang district.
