Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik declares state’s working journalists frontline COVID-19 warriors

BHUBANESWAR: Chief minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has declared the working journalists in the state to be frontline COVID-19 warriors.

Altogether 6944 working journalists would profit from the decision.

The chief minister said the working journalists of the state provide a valuable service by delivering a consistent news feed, raising public awareness about COVID-related issues, and providing strong support for the COVID war.

The COVID-19 cases in Odisha continued to show an up and down pattern over the past 24 hours, with as many as 8,015 people testing positive and 14 patients succumbing to the deadly virus, a day after breaking the mark of 10,000 cases on a single day.

According to reports, the state recorded 10,413 cases on Saturday, the largest single day increase since the pandemic began last year.

The state government has also announced sweeping restrictions in the wake of the growing number of COVID-19 cases in the state.

The state will be placed on full lockdown for 14 days beginning on May 5.
