GUWAHATI: Bhupen Kumar Borah, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President, has asked Union Minister and former Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to launch a 'Jan Khoma Yatra' (Public Apology March) instead of 'Jan Ashirwad Yatra' today.

Bhupen Borah said,"AASU termed him as Jatiya Nayak. He kneeled at the NRC Office after taking charge as CM. He unfurled the national flag on the Bangladesh border area, he took oath in Gerukamukh with BJP's national president and promised to protect the land rights of indigenous people of the state and implement Assam Accord and Clause 6."

"Sarbananda Sonowal must inform the people of Assam whether the promises that he made and for which he was elevated from Jatiya Nayak to the CM of Assam have been fulfilled or not. If not, then he should launch a Public Apology March for the remaining days of his Yatra," Borah added.

Borah also slammed Sonowal over delaying the probe into the Louis Berger scam and Sharada Scam, failing in rejuvenating the two public sector paper mills in the state, ST status to the six indigenous communities and give answers to these questions during his Yatra including assurance of employment to unemployed youths of Assam.

"Present CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma himself insinuated that cattle syndicate worth Rs 1000 crores every month, ‘supari’ syndicate and drugs smuggling happened in the previous BJP Government and it reflected the failure of the Home department during Sri Sonowal’s time and that he is taking tough measures to eradicate them. Can Sri Sonowal now say why he failed to combat these evils during his stint as CM?" said Borah.

Borah also expressed his views of Congress' ally AIUDF's General Secretary Fazlul Karim's arrest in a case related to sharing pro-Taliban remarks on social media.

"We want strong action against the AIUDF leaders who support Taliban. The BJP tries to drag the name of Congress in any matter related to the AIUDF. But they must remember that people are also aware of the fact that an alliance between the two parties is still on in the districts of Nagaon, Darrang and Karimganj Zilla Parishad’s," Borah opined.
