Tripura: 24 people from different parties injured in political violence including CPI (M) MLA

AGARTALA: Clashes between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party and opposition Communist Party of India (Marxist) and The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) left approximately 24 party people – including CPI-M MLA Sudhan Das and his wife — injured as reports claimed.

As reported, out of injured people, eight are from CPI-M, 10 from BJP and 6 from TIPRA. All are undergoing treatment in different hospitals. Update on their condition is yet to be known.

Former CPI-M Tripura CM Manik Sarkar has sought to discuss with President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘attacks’ on his party workers, allegedly by the ruling party BJP’s workers.

Sarkar also said that Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb and Governor Ramesh Baisa “completely failed to control violence and attacks on opposition leaders and supporters across the state.”

Sarkar had branded it as a ‘Gunda raj’ by ruling BJP in the state and accused the police of protecting the “ruling party criminals.”

On the other hand, TIPRA chief Pradyot Manikya visited Subol Sing para in the Hezamara area where houses were allegedly damaged by his party members and gave the affected people a financial assistance of Rs 1,00,000 from his personal coffers.

“We need to change this culture of political violence which we have inherited from the left,” said Manikya.
